At Motherplants, we grow a wide variety of plants for green roofs. Extensive green roofs require drought-tolerant plants with shallow roots, so we carry a wide range of species, primarily Sedums, Delosperma, and Sempervivums, plus an assortment of non-succulents which have proven successful on roofs.
With slightly deeper substrates, a wider range of species can be grown, including ornamental grasses, alpine flowers, and foliage plants. We grow a range of these species commonly used on green roofs. We are also in the process of trialing a variety of native North American species for suitability on green roofs.
